Emergent labial stops in English

چکیده

The lexicon of English contains a number words which developed emergent stops, mostly p , b t d . Some these have functioned as variants forms without such stops (cf. OE endleofan ~ enlefan or gandra ganra ) but in most cases they prevail Present-day English, exemplified by nimol > ModE nimble æmtig empty present study examines the process labial stop epenthesis from perspective diachrony and diatopy. I searched for containing texts collected historical corpora to identify their uses with parasitic consonants. This made it possible establish precise chronology process, was at work Old Modern context appeared.
